Discussion question: When you think of the production/Capability (PC) idea, What is our golden egg? Is it taking care of our teachers or our students? (p 57-58)
I think that teachers need to be taken care of first and foremost. It's a lot like "Mom" at home. When mom is well the house is clean, food prepared, and clothes washed. However, when mom is ill, the organization and preparedness of the home lis less efficient. Supporting teachers and giving them the skills and means to teach their students is MOST IMPORTANT. A well equipped teacher can make a HUGE difference in the classroom then one who is stressed and worried all the time.
I agree, Carla. I think it is similar to the hotel staff scenario in the book. When employees feel valued and part of the plan, they will go above and beyond. Our salaries are what they are unfortunately, but we know that going into the profession. The salary would be easier to swallow if society/legislators, etc, valued us as highly-educated, skilled professionals.
